I wouldn’t say I have a favourite band, that distinction comes and goes much like the tides. One day I may be in a Weezer mood, the next, Wale… Today it’s a Vampire Weekend day.

My colleagues say Vampire Weekend are a bunch of yuppies from Columbia with daddy’s money, and to that I say phisshaw. I’ve like VW ever since their eponymous album was released in 2008, I’m still a fan through Contra and even still with their involvement in the Twilight Sagas. Enjoy “M79”.

Vampire Weekend-M79

Sorry for the lack of posts, this has been a rather full week.

I had to pack up all my worldly possessions and move back home to the illustrious eastern shore of Maryland. Naturally the weekend was filled with quite a bit of indulging in the things that make me love where I live. St. Micheals winery, Cantler’s riverside restaurant, enjoying the mall and I even got to try on my next pair of running shoes.

In all that time I couldn’t find the time to answer the question of day 10 in the 30 Day Song Challenge: A song which makes me fall asleep. This is tough. I’m sure I could post Secondhand Serenade (that actually just came to me, I already uploaded the track I’m gonna use), but instead I went with a time-honoured favourite. Modest Mouse.

Back when I was in the prime of my partying ways and in my first semester at Frostburg, I used to follow a pretty standard regimen to battle hangovers. I’d wake up relatively early, grab a ham & cheese omelet, 2 glasses of gatorade and go back and take a nap. While napping I’d usually just put Modest Mouse or Jack Johnson on shuffle, The Moon & Antarctica was my prime choice. So here’s “Gravity Rides Everything”.

Day 9: A song that I can dance to…

No explanation here. This track is funky like Donkey Kong’s cousin.

Black Kids-I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (The Twelves Remix)

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 8 is a song that I know every word to.

Here’s a preface: Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life was the first hip-hop album I ever bought. I played that thing in my walkman day in and day out, on field trips to dc, Gettysburg and Baltimore. I know most of the words on the entire cd, but one track stands out.

Jay-Z-Can I Get A… featuring Amil & Ja Rule

Tomorrow is a song I can dance to.

P.s. I’m not going to waste a whole post on Tinie Tempah’s Foreign Object. That shit sucked, if you like him you’ll probably enjoy it. I, however, was put off by all the original verses by the original artists left on tracks that he took beats from. I wasn’t impressed, I felt like he was going for a Da Drought 3 type thing but couldn’t pull it off like Wayne.

Day 7: A song that reminds me an event.

Wale’s go at Jay-Z’s “Thank You” reminds me of New Years 2010, that was a fun night. Noise makes were blown in cops’ faces, rum was drank and yard flamingos stolen.

Wale-Thank You

Stay with me here, but Pepper’s song “Point and Shoot” reminds of the Rehobeth Beach outlets.

I think that has to do with the fact that this song was in heavy rotation on my very first iPod (R.I.P. Rusty) in the summer of 2008. That was a good day for me, I got some sweet polo pj’s, my first taste of Lucky jeans and a two foot tall Buddha.

Get ready for day 7! A song that reminds me of a certain event.

Pepper-Point and Shoot

Day 5, a song that reminds me of someone.

This was easy for me, as two songs basically both remind me of the same person. I won’t post both the original by the Kooks, but instead share the cover version by Lily Allen. I think I’ve said on here before that a certain song reminds me of my favourite semester, when I pledged, well this on takes me back to taking naps in Sowers hall after class and sharing a meaningful friendship that I’ve since lost for the most part.

For days 1 through 4 peep here, and come back tomorrow for a song that reminds me of somewhere.

Lily Allen-Naïve

This song, by Dashboard, makes me sad. Umm, I don’t really want to get too personal here but it reminds me of a very rough time during school. I learned one thing that semester: alcohol doesn’t solve troubles; it makes them far worse than you can ever possibly imagine.

So that’s day 4 of the 30 Day Song Challenge, if you’ve missed days 1 through 3 check them out. Tomorrow is a song that reminds me of someone, I’m pretty sure I know which one that will be.

Dashboard Confessional-Standard Lines

Day 3 of the 30 Day Song Challenge,  is a song that makes me happy. I love the Format, I wish they hadn’t broken up but c’est la vie. This is “She Doesn’t Get It”, I’m not sure why this makes me happy, it just does.

The Format-She Doesn’t Get It

p.s. Lets start doing a “Format Fridays” from now on.

It’s day 2 of the 30 Day Song Challenge and it’s time for my least favourite song ever.

I don’t listen to very much radio, unless it’s Annapolis’ WRNR over the summers at work. Yet, somehow these shitty pop songs find me. I think this is truly the worst song ever made, sometimes I think of Britney Spears and wonder who gave her money to sing and then my brain trails off to pondering the topic of her entire career. Like, in 20 years will she be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? I certainly hope not, that’s a world I don’t want to live in.

For previous installments click here, check back tomorrow for day 3 (a song that makes me happy [good thing I have 24 hours to think about that one])
