Noah Beresin from Chiddy Bang fame has put a second installment of his remix mixtapes, do an internet search and find it. I’m far too lazy to do that for you, who do you take me for?! Lorenzo de’ Medici?

I’ve heard bad things about it, and that the first Xaphoon Jones jaunt was better, but here’s “Lights!” re-worked. Ya diggg?!

Ellie Goulding-Lights (Xaphoon Jones BoomBapStep Remix)

Dammit, I love Ellie Goulding… but you knew that. Right? Right.

Here’s the latest of her many covers (“Roscoe” is still my fav).

As I mentioned earlier in the day, Lights was released to the U.S.

Another thing that excites me, if you ever followed either one of the To Kill A Mockingbird blogs I did prior to this then you’d know I’m quite the fan of Ms. Goulding. In fact, I’m pretty sure I fantasize about moving into a cottage with her in the suburbs of London and raising 2 children… all of whom are Chelsea fans… But that’s probably crazy.

Anyway, Lights got a reworking of sorts. A few tracks were cut, some were added. Nothing new assuming you snapped up the re-release (Bright Lights). If you have yet to check out Ellie, please do so now (iTunes).

Review:

I loved Lights since hearing it over a year ago, and the only reason the US release doesn’t earn a perfect score is due to the delay of the release. Why did it take a over a year for this to show up in the States? Hype Machine has been blowing up with her songs, but her label is too restrictive.

Rating: President Theodore Roosevelt (4/5)

This is my first foray into the world of Dupstep, it’s okay. I love the song “Lights” originally, so that’s kinda the motivation behind sharing this track (and being able to post a pic of Ellie, but that’s a different story for another day).

Back to dubstep, what’s all the fuss about? Honestly? I’m I too old where I don’t get “it”? Back when I was your age we had to walk in the snow 10 miles uphill to hear original songs, that weren’t remixed. If we wanted remixes, we had to do it ourselves and maybe that’s why America is in such rough shape. You kids just let other people remix songs for you. It’s a shame. Kids in China are remixing songs for cheaper and more efficiently. Let’s Win The Future.

We’re a week or so in to the new year, and I still have quite a while ’till I return to my respective institution of higher learning. So why not make another list that highlights the year that was, musically speaking.

I guess I should start with some sort of prologue of the year we all endured through, but I don’t care. As far as I’m concerned 2010 sucked in terms of music, most places do top 20’s (Rolling Stone has included some 2009 albums, to quote Rza on “So Appalled” “Fuckin’ Ricalous”). To summarize, I’m doing a top 10… and maybe a list of songs that were cool. Maybe.

So here we are, blog number three.

I hope this will be more successful than my first two forays into the world of music blogs, and hopefully more dc-centric. I’m kicking this blog off with a track from a local producing wunderkind by way of Colorado. Here’s Brenton Duvall’s take on Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” and Waka Flocka Flame’s “No Hands”.

Thankfully the Potomac Boys Club spared us of Roscoe Dash’s verse.
